Universal Pre-K

We are excited to announce that beginning in September 2025, the Cooperstown Central School District will offer a Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for eligible children residing in the district. This new program will provide a high-quality, play-based, and developmentally appropriate educational experience designed to support our youngest learners as they prepare for kindergarten and beyond.

  • To be eligible for the UPK program, children must:

    • Reside within the Cooperstown Central School District; and

    • Turn four years old on or before December 1, 2025

    • The program will run five days a week, from 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM, following the district calendar.

    • Each class will be led by a certified teacher with the support of a teacher aide.

    • The curriculum will emphasize early literacy, numeracy, social-emotional development, motor skills, and learning through play and hands-on activities.

    • Parent transportation to and from school is required.

    • Breakfast and lunch will be available through the school meals program.

  • As required by the New York State Department of Education, enrollment in the UPK program will be determined by lottery. The district will open one classroom, with a maximum enrollment of 18 students.

Submitting an application form indicates interest in the program but does not guarantee enrollment. Families are welcome to attend the lottery, and will be notified in writing of their status once the application window closes.
