Message from the Principal

My name is Amy Malcuria, and I am honored to serve as the principal of Cooperstown Elementary School. As a longtime Cooperstown resident, the proud mother of a Cooperstown graduate, and the parent of a current elementary student, this school community holds a very special place in my heart.

I believe in being accessible, approachable, and connected to our students, families, and staff is at the core of who I am as a leader. I care deeply about every member of our school community, and I know that strong, honest communication builds the trust and collaboration that allow children to thrive.

To me, school should be a safe, welcoming, and nurturing place where students not only gain knowledge but also discover who they are meant to be. One of my favorite quotes reflects this belief:

“Children are not things to be molded, but are people to be unfolded.” – Jess Lair

I believe that by working together, we can create a strong sense of community and lay a solid foundation for your child’s success—both in school and in life. Please know my door is always open, and I welcome your questions, ideas, and partnership as we work to make this a wonderful year for our students.

Here are a few tips to help your child achieve their full potential:

  • Establish a consistent homework routine: Designate a quiet, well-lit space for homework and set a regular time for its completion.
  • Encourage reading: Read with your child daily, even for just 15-20 minutes. This helps develop vocabulary, comprehension, and a love of reading.
  • Limit screen time: Set reasonable limits on television, video games, and other electronic devices, especially during study time.
  • Celebrate effort and progress: Focus on your child's hard work and improvement, rather than just grades.
  • Ensure adequate sleep and nutrition: A well-rested and nourished child is better able to focus and learn.
  • Communicate with the teacher: Use ParentSquare to stay in regular contact with your child's teacher to discuss their progress, address any concerns, and collaborate on strategies to support their learning.

We believe that by working together, we can create a strong foundation for your child's academic and personal growth. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or the school office if you have any questions or need additional support.

Warmly,
Amy Malcuria
